BH5 Guide, Builder Hall 5: What to upgrade first, How to manage defenses, strategies and troop upgrades
In this guide, we’ll explain how to manage the Builder Base with Level 5 Builder Hall: we’ll show you the steps you need to get the most out of it and be able to optimize gold and elixir without having to buy gems and spend money. We’ll explain and advise those that we think are the steps to get the most form your BH5 (Builder Hall 5) where we can finally unlock and use the hero Battle Machine.

Upgrading Builder Hall to Level 5
As soon as you upgrade your base it will unlock many buildings, troops and traps, it’s especially important at this stage to know what to do and where to invest gold and elixir.
Let’s start by listing all the new buildings and upgrades unlocked with the upgrading of Builder Hall level 5:
New Buildings
- Altar and Hero Battle Machine
Defensive Buldings
- New wall rows,
- Push Trap,
- Multi Mortar,
- Spring Trap.

- No other buildings available to build

- Elixir Collector,

- Star Laboratory can be upgraded until level 5,
- Builder Barracks can be upgraded until level 7

What to Build first in Builder Hall level 5
You may know that farm in this modality isn’t easy, we won’t linger on the question of gold and elixir as we have widely talked about it in the article on How to Farm in the Builder Base.
This is why it is extremely important to rationalize and maximize the amount of resources we can unlock on a daily basis. It goes without saying that investing gold and elixir on buidings or upgrades that may turn out to a waste would cost a lot in terms of time and wins in Versus Battles. Here’s what to build or upgrade with prioritize.
How to use Gold in BH5
We don’t recommend starting from this level with the priority of upgrading Elixir Collector and Gold Mine, as the biggest loot comes from Versus Battles. You may reserve the upgrade of these buildings according to your preferences, given the low cost and rather limited time you can decide to increase them whenever you like.
As you will know, it is very important to defend yourself, because in this mode the defensive side is especially important (it is important to choose from the best BH5 bases here). For this it is very important to invest the Gold in defenses by following this order:
- Build the second Double Cannon (low cost and building time),
- Prioritize Multi-Mortar. In order to upgrade it, you will need at lest a level 4 gold storage.
- Build all the wall rows available
- Build all the traps, first of all spring trap and mine (you can avoid building Push Trap)
- Build Collectors, mines and firecrackers,
How to use Elixir in BH5
The elixir has a great potential in this game mode and will serve you mostly to strengthen and unlock the abilities of the new troops. Here is the order and what to do first with Elixir; we will give priority to the hero Battle Machine:
- Build the second Elixir Storage,
- Upgrade an elixir storage to level 3 and 1 to level 4 (you will reach max. 900.000 elixir). Reserve the quantity of elixir for build the hero Battle Machine
- You can avoid upgrading Builder Barracks to level 7 if you want (Cannon cart doesn’t allows you a great 3-starring strategy)
- Upgrade Star Laboratory until level 5
Gem Mine upgrading is currently avoidable, as it has a very high cost for reparation and generates just 2 gems a day (an obstacle can yield up to 6 if not more). Focus on Star Laboratory upgrades.
Star Laboratory: what to upgrade first
The offense is very important in this game mode, so you have to invest heavily on the upgrading of troops in the Star Laboratory; though air troops are maybe stronger, they’re underused and they allow to 3 star only some times. This is the list of what you should upgrade first.
- Upgrade star Laboratory until level 5
- Upgrade until level 10 these troops:
- Sneaky Archers,
- Boxer Giants,
- Raged Barbarians,
- Avoid upgrading Minions, Bomber and Baby Dragon at the beginning
These are the 3 important steps to follow, after you can commit yourself to upgrading, for example, the Clock Tower (Level 1’s 5 minutes are more than enough to BH5, however, it may be useful to increase the time gain by bringing it to Level 5, which is But decide what priority to give you).
